Scott Samuels
My name is Scott Samuels and I am a Systems Analyst from Canberra, Australia, specialising in SharePoint design and development for a Fortune 500 company. My formal qualifications are:
- 4 year Engineering in Software Engineering degree with honors in Web Security
- Member of Engineers Australia, holding roles as
- Committee Member, Information, Telecommunications & Electronics Engineering College Committee, Canberra Division; and
- Committee Member, Young Engineers Australia Committee, Canberra Division
- 3rd year Provisional Member of the Australian Computer Society.
My previous role was as a part owner/application designer in a large Open Source web development product – HRMWeb – focused on delivering a Web 2.0 online human resourcing system.
During a holiday in the USA I was approached for a role in a large SharePoint implementation. Knowing only that SharePoint was some sort of commercial-off-the-shelf portal product I took a leap of faith and applied for what now is my current role.
Over the past 2 years I have seen the rise and rise of SharePoint, specifically Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, both domestically and internationally through my work as a Systems Analyst.
When SharePoint 2007 was first released I remember how difficult it was finding useful information on MOSS design and development. The most useful information generally came from blogs – ‘pioneers’ such as Joel Oleson and Heather Solomon – for which I am forever grateful. From their guidance, my own curiosity and the knowledge of my work colleagues I have come to understand the good and bad aspects of the product from both a design perspective and from a development perspective.
More personally, I love traveling, sports, food and friends! I have also been a DJ for the past 6 years.

In this blog I would like to share my own thoughts, activities, gripes and praises of the SharePoint platform. I believe the most important aspect of a blog is its discussions. I openly welcome all contributions (both positive and negative) and will aspire to reply in a timely fasion. Thanks for visiting my blog.
